Snook Haven
Snook Haven is a popular spot on the Myakka River at the easternmost end of Venice Avenue just past River Road.

Sometime around 1938 the spot now called Snook Haven was used for the filming of the Tarzan movie "The Revenge of the Killer Turtles" starring Johnnie Weismuller. Over the years Snook Haven has continued as a fish camp, offering cabin rentals, boat launch, and restaurant. Privately owned, it became a popular spot for both locals and tourists alike, offering a riverfront restaurant with entertainment, and very popular destination for bikers on weekends. In 2006 the owners decided to retire, and Sarasota County purchased the property as a County Park, as it offers a needed public access to the Myakka River for kayaks, canoes, and smaller boats. The facilities were improved, and the restaurant is operated by the same entity that runs Sharky's at the Venice Municipal Pier. Visit the Sarasota Parks link:  Snook Haven Park
