Legacy Trail Bike Path
If you are a bicycle or motorcycle enthusiast the Sarasota area is a perfect place as the weather is good all year.

Cycling-  In 2008 Sarasota County opened The Legacy Trail , a 10 mile long cycling trail following the right of way of the former CSX Railway, running from the City of Sarasota to the north, to Casperson Beach in the south. There is an overpass spanning US 41 in Venice, and another overpass planned at Laurel Rd in Nokomis. The County is also exploring options to expand the Trail to interconnect with other parks. The Trail runs through Oscar Scherer State Park and has bridge crossings over Dona Bay & Shackett Creek, and runs beside the Intracoastal Waterway through Venice before Trail's end at Casperson Beach. A very popular amenity! Here is an excellent website all about The Legacy Trail courtesy of local Sarasota resident Sandy Estabrook: http://www.sarasotalegacytrail.com/

Motorcycling-  Avid riders will find the Sarasota climate perfect for riding year round. There are some nice routes to ride through the various Keys (Longboat, Siesta, Casy, Manasota) and some good rides out east of the I-75 through some rural countryside. There are number of clubs that regularly organize planned rides and poker runs. There is no helmet law in Florida, but personally I wear a helmet as I have already had a serious incident in 1978 and the helmet may have saved my life. There is an big annual Biker Event in Sarasota, Thunder by the Bay that attracts thousands of riders from all over Florida. This event raises 10s of thousands of dollars for Suncoast Charities for Children each year.
